Gary Kubiak to return Sunday, Sam Baker to injured reserve and more

Houston Texans head coach Gary Kubiak is expected to coach on Sunday against the Oakland Raiders. Kubiak missed the team’s Week 10 game against the Arizona Cardinals after suffering a minor stroke the week prior. Kubiak had collapsed on the field during Houston’s Week 9 game. Wade Phillips served as the interim head coach last week.

Houston Texans running back Arian Foster has been banged up all season. He dealt with a hamstring injury early in the year and is now dealing with a back injury. Sunday’s game against the Arizona Cardinals will be the first game he misses this season though, as he’s already been ruled out. Foster has an issue with a disc in his back and is reportedly doing everything he can in hopes of suiting up again in 2013. That would require avoiding surgery at this point.

Sunday’s game seems to have been tailor-made to stump bettors. Ultimately, a determination one way or the other may depend on one’s confidence in Cutler’s health. If the quarterback can play without limitations, Chicago may be the tempting pick given its recent success against Detroit at home. If Cutler is rusty, an upstart Lions team may be the better option.

The Rams picked up a big win at Indianapolis and managed to do so without taking any more significant injury hits. James Laurinaitis left the game due to a cut, but returned after receiving stitches in his right ear. Benny Cunningham also left the game briefly before returning.
